Overview

You restore the vault’s systems and upgrade its rooms over time. Its position in the shadow of Bonetown means toll-takers and patrols pass near the approach, so you balance staying completely hidden against negotiating and bribing your way through.

Districts or sub-locations

  • Central Hub / Atrium: Connects the Vault’s rooms and acts as its navigation center.
  • Leader Bedroom: Personal quarters and a private command space.
  • Reactor Room: Restores power to the facility.
  • Water Purification Chamber: Supports the Vault’s long-term water independence.
  • Workshop: Used for repairs, construction, and equipment work.
  • Living Quarters: Houses the Vault’s residents.
  • Kitchen and Recreation Room: Support daily survival and recovery.

NPCs

The Vault’s population changes through recruitment and story progression. The player determines who is housed there and how available labor is assigned across its rooms.

Quests

The Vault anchors the main restoration storyline. Major objectives include restoring power, reopening sealed rooms, repairing the water purifier, and building enough resources and alliances to survive independently.

Shops

The Vault does not begin with a conventional shop. Equipment and supplies come from scavenging, quests, construction, and trade with outside settlements.

Dangers

  • Many systems begin damaged or offline.
  • Internal doors may remain sealed until opened with a Breach Charge.
  • Water, power, food, and materials must be carefully managed.
  • Bonetown patrols and travelers can threaten the Vault’s secrecy.

Lore

The Vault is a buried Pre-Crash civil-defense shelter that remained abandoned for decades. Shifting sand and Dead-Signal canyon’s mineral-rich rock conceal its entrance and interfere with long-range communications.
