Overview

Marcus Cross is Bonetown's ruler, a former mercenary captain who controls the settlement's water, power, gates, markets, and arena.

Where to find

In the established lore, Marcus Cross rules Bonetown in the Bonelands. He is not currently present as an interactable NPC in version v0.23.

Cross’s Balcony is an implemented location label in Bonetown’s Arena District. Established canon defines it as an elevated platform overlooking the Fighting Pits, used for announcements, mock trials, public punishments, and Cross’s personal viewing of arena spectacles.

Schedule and availability

Marcus Cross has no implemented interaction or daily schedule in version v0.23. He is designed as a future quest giver and boss-tier combatant, but those functions are not currently playable.

Current gameplay presence

  • Bonetown dialogue identifies Cross as the ruler behind the settlement and its arena.
  • Implemented NPCs including Hawk, Vex, Doc Meat, and Gutter Glee identify themselves as serving or operating under his authority.
  • The Bleeders arena tier displays a requirement for Baron Cross’s approval.
  • In v0.23, that approval check is a temporary stub that always passes; the related quest flag is not implemented.

Established history

Ten years before the current story, a massive raider army surrounded Bonetown and its old leadership panicked. Cross was then a mercenary captain.

Cross released Bonetown’s most dangerous enslaved pit fighters and imprisoned criminals. He offered the survivors positions in his new guard if they killed the raiders, and threatened to kill anyone who retreated.

He sent them in repeated waves against the raiders’ machine guns to deplete the attackers’ ammunition. Established canon states that thousands were sacrificed to break the siege. The fighters who survived became the first Yard-Dogs, Bonetown’s present gate guards, tax collectors, and district patrols.

Cross took power after the siege. His personal faction is the Bone Empire, centered in Bonetown and extending its influence through a network of slavers, gladiators, and enforcers.

Authority and appearance

Established canon identifies Cross as Bonetown’s absolute authority. He controls the settlement’s water, power, and gates, keeps tight control over its traders, trainers, and pitmasters, and maintains order through fear, showmanship, and public executions.

Cross is described as a tall, heavily muscled man with a thick beard and a chest scarred by old battles. He wears a heavy, fur-lined leather coat open over his chest and a heavy leather belt with an ornate buckle.

Bonetown’s settlement lore calls him the Pit-Lord, while its hierarchy names him the Warlord King. Both are established titles for Marcus Cross.

Services

Cross offers no direct player service in version v0.23 because his NPC interaction is not implemented.

Planned content

  • Cross’s Favor: Completing tasks for Cross is designed to grant access to elite auctions.
  • Cross missions: Design canon lists sabotage and acquisition requests as examples of planned missions.
  • Betrayal path: Betraying Cross is designed to close some questlines and potentially open resistance paths.
  • Arena dialogue gates: High arena standing is designed to unlock dialogue with Cross. This is planned as an arena-standing gate, not a separate faction-reputation meter.
